Londoners are more likely to be caught out by fraudsters than people elsewhere in the UK, it has been claimed.

Cifas - a fraud prevention service - stated that both the capital and the south-east are prone to this activity on credit cards and through other channels such as loans.

Sandra Peaston, research manager at the company, said this is a "remarkable" trend and criminals focus on one highly populated area in a bid to remain anonymous.

"It is also true to say that London is a city of stark contrast where extraordinarily wealthy and socially disadvantaged people often live in close proximity," she commented.

Head of communications Kate Beddington-Brown added that there are "incentives" for potential criminals such as more expensive property in the UK's biggest city.

Drivers in Chingford have recently been warned that credit card fraudsters are operating in the area, possibly at a Morrisons petrol station.
